It’s finally time for the first dose of new Ziro material in over a year. ‘Lost’ represents a bold progression in the Bristol producer’s sound – trademark menacing atmospherics underpin a volatile arrangement of flashing claps and flickering hi hats, with growling bass notes tearing through a brooding vocal performance from Trim.
New Ziro can be sporadic to say the least – just a single EP and two remixes have surfaced since his Mary Anne Hobbs and Mosca-championed debut ‘Coded’ marked the birth of our label in 2012. ‘Pulse’ EP arrived on Damu’s Fulcrum label last summer to great acclaim – the shocking lurch of ‘Fractures’ hinting at more abstract work to come.
The past twelve months have been a time of quiet focus for Ziro, introducing new hardware to his setup and exploring a world of new influences. A sprawling nine-minute techno rework of Alight’s ‘Obelisk’ on Local Action was quickly followed by a thunderous halfstep remix of El-B’s seminal ‘Buck & Bury’ – with recent support from Pinch, Mumdance and Wen paving the way for his return.
